Rat Attacks MidTown

A few of us gawked out my cubicle window, guessing what the giant rat across the street was wild eyed about.

Ilya thought our neighbors were celebrating the Chinese New Year, (2008 is year of the rat,) to one-up their Christmas decoration. AsiaTown is on the other side of MidTown, though.

I wondered if the rats in Public Square had fled uptown, escaping the poisoning of their boroughs.

John guessed correctly: a showing against non-union labor. We hadn't seen the scab on the rat's underbelly, but it was grossly apparent when I went outside to shoot {photos of / the bull with} the guys making their stand.

The sign is missing some small font disclamers to make it even less readable. And it would be cool if the guy's eyes would lite up under the hood. :) Nothing is more intimidating then union carpenter from hell controlling a giant rat.
On the other, even less funny side every union related issue always has two faces. We have been undermined by union in our Bioradio demonstration and that was upsetting, however trained professionals should get payed proper wages aspecially in depressed areas. Go figure.

Hmm. If it was a real, live rat, I think I would have a new mode of transportation to work.

He wasn't at all menacing, as the faceless hood makes him out to be. The photo was going to be just the sign, but I decided to frame his head at the last moment.

Yes, two sides to every issue. Makes it difficult to open one's mouth, sometimes.

Adam, you could grumble (sincerely) about the rat race when leaving for work in the morning.

I haven't been down in that neighborhood for a while. Since mid November to be exact. I see that building, the former view from my cube window, is coming along… non-union ‘scabs’ and all. They have windows in already.

Who would have guessed that it's a non-union shop that cranks out the menacing inflatables...

Ha, good find, Anne.

The rat was back today, coincidently,
braving the rain,
and
surely being splashed
by riders in the bike lane.
